Taurus Support
Everything you need to run your Taurus thermal clip-on — mount it on your day scope, keep your reticle and zero, and get the most out of it after dark. Two models: T435 (384×288) and T635-LRF (640×512, 1,000 m rangefinder). Genuine Australian stock, full C.R. Kennedy warranty, serviced locally.
Getting Started
What is the Taurus, and what's in the box?
The Taurus is a thermal clip-on: it attaches to the front of your existing day scope and turns it into a thermal setup after dark, without changing your reticle or your zero. Because it's true 1×, you aim through your day scope exactly as you always have. In the box: the Taurus unit, a Bluetooth remote controller, a removable 18650 battery, a USB-C cable, a lens cloth and a quick start guide.
How do I charge and fit the battery?
Install one 18650 in the compartment — positive end down — and tighten the cover. Charge over the supplied USB-C cable: red light charging, green fully charged, red/green alternating is a fault. Keep it between 0 °C and 60 °C on charge. Runtime is 6 hours at 25 °C; carry a charged spare 18650 for long nights.
How do I turn it on and use the controls?
Press and hold the power button to start up or shut down; a short press puts it to sleep. The rest of the buttons depend on your model — the T635-LRF has a dedicated Laser button for ranging, while the T435 has a Capture button for photos. On both, press-and-hold the record control to take video, and the Zoom button doubles as your manual calibration. The included Bluetooth remote lets you drive the key functions without touching the unit — which matters on a clip-on, because your hands stay off the setup and your alignment stays put.
Alignment (keeping your zero)
Do I keep my zero and my reticle?
Yes — that's the whole point of a clip-on. You keep shooting through your day scope, so you keep its reticle and, in principle, its zero. In practice a clip-on can introduce a small, repeatable point-of-impact shift if it isn't mounted concentric and consistent, so the right habit is: fit it, check your point of impact on paper at your working distance, and note any offset once.
The Taurus internal alignment (Zeroing)
The Taurus also has an on-board Zeroing alignment that lines its thermal reticle up with your day sight. In the main menu, open Zeroing, freeze the image, select the X and Y axis, and adjust until the target dot sits on the centre of your day scope's reticle, then save. There's also a Menu Size setting to suit different day sights.
Image Quality
How do I focus the Taurus?
The Taurus focuses on its own objective focus ring — aim at the target and turn the ring until the thermal image is sharp. There's no separate eyepiece adjustment; you're still looking through your day scope's eyepiece.
Why does it "click" and freeze? (FFC calibration)
That's FFC (flat-field calibration) keeping the image clean and even — normal and expected. It runs on Auto, and with Auto off you trigger it manually by double-pressing the Zoom button.
Colour palettes
Six palettes: White Hot, Black Hot, Iron Red, Alarm, Emerald and Amber. White and Black Hot are the everyday choices; the colour palettes help hot targets stand out for fast detection. Flick through them in the brief menu and run what your eye reads fastest.
Brightness, contrast, sharpness, and finding game
All in the brief menu — set to suit the light and your eyes. Forest Mode boosts warm targets against scrub, and Hot Point tracks the hottest point in the scene.
Why can't I see as far as I expected? / image soft at high magnification
Two things worth knowing. Thermal detection, recognition and identification are three different distances — you'll detect heat much farther than you can identify the animal (see the Thermal Academy lesson on that). And with any clip-on, cranking your day scope's magnification enlarges the thermal pixels too, so the image softens as you zoom — that's the nature of a clip-on, not a fault. On the 640 sensor (T635-LRF) you can push higher than on the 384 (T435) before it degrades.
Rangefinder (T635-LRF)
Using the rangefinder (T635-LRF)
The T635-LRF has a built-in 1,000 m laser rangefinder — the same unit as the Pegasus 2: Class 1, 905 nm, accurate to ±1 metre. The T435 doesn't have a rangefinder. If yours won't return a reading, it's almost always the target or the conditions rather than a fault — see the shared article Why won't my LRF measure distance? for the full rundown.
Recording & the App
Photos, video and audio
Photo: on the T635-LRF, press Laser and Menu together; on the T435, press Capture. Video: press and hold the record control for 3 seconds to start and again to stop, with sound on or off via the microphone toggle. Auto Record starts a clip automatically when it senses the shot.
Connecting to the Pixfra Outdoor app
Enable Wi-Fi in the main menu, then join the Taurus hotspot from your phone — the network name is the model and serial number, and the default password is 12345678 (change it in settings). Open the Pixfra Outdoor app, log in and add the device. The Taurus may switch Wi-Fi off automatically below 15% battery.
Getting footage off
Connect to a computer over USB-C, set USB mode to Storage, and copy your files off the drive. Recording and capture are disabled while it's plugged into the computer.
Firmware, Care & Troubleshooting
Updating firmware
Over the app when it prompts you, or over USB-C: main menu → System Setting → USB Mode → Storage → copy the .bin across → restart. Start from a good charge.
Cleaning and waterproofing
Body: soft dry cloth, or barely damp with mild neutral detergent — never alcohol, benzene, thinners or abrasives, and hands off the front lens. The Taurus is IP67 rated, so rain and dust are no problem.
Factory reset
Main menu → Restore Default resets the unit to factory settings.
Quick troubleshooting
| Problem | First checks |
|---|---|
| Point of impact shifted after fitting | Adapter sized to your bell and fully seated; concentric; clamp firm; re-check on paper |
| Image soft at high magnification | Normal for a clip-on — drop day-scope magnification; set the thermal focus |
| Won't turn on | Battery charged and seated; try USB-C power |
| Remote won't respond | Remote battery; re-pair |
| No app / no recording | Wi-Fi on; correct network; app updated; battery above 15% |
