WHY ILLUMINATION MATTERS

Thermal finds it. Illumination lets you see it.

In plain terms — thermal tells you something's out there; illumination lets your day/night channel show you exactly what it is.

Thermal imaging and digital night vision do two different jobs. Thermal detects heat — unbeatable for finding a warm animal in the black. But the moment you switch to a 4K day/night channel to confirm what you're looking at, that sensor needs light to work with, and on a genuinely dark night there isn't any. That's the job of an infrared illuminator: it floods the scene with light your eye can't see but your optic can, turning a murky grey picture into a crisp, identifiable one.

How does it actually work? An IR torch or module emits at a fixed wavelength and lights up everything in its beam for the sensor — like a torch only the camera can see. The choice comes down to which wavelength suits how you hunt.

940nm
Fully covert
No visible glow at all — even the faint red shine of an 850 unit is gone. The animal sees nothing. The trade-off is slightly less reach for the same output.
850nm
Longer reach
A hint of dull red glow up close, but noticeably more effective range. The pick when distance matters more than being completely invisible.
CLIP ON, CLIP OFF
Match it to your setup
Run a detachable I.R. torch alongside your optic, or clip the illumination module straight onto the Draco — on when you need it, off when you don't.
MOUNTS, DEMYSTIFIED

Do you need a cantilever mount, or will standard rings do?

Getting the optic solidly on the rifle is half the battle — a mount that shifts is a scope that never holds zero. The right answer depends on your rifle and how far forward the optic needs to sit for correct eye relief.

The bottom line — Not sure what fits your rifle? Send us your setup and we'll confirm the right mount before you buy.
STANDARD RINGS
Simple and solid
Two rings clamped to a Picatinny rail. Ideal when the scope sits naturally over the action and you've got rail to work with. Cheapest, lightest, dead reliable.
CANTILEVER MOUNT
When you need reach forward
A one-piece mount that pushes the optic forward for correct eye relief — the answer on shorter actions, AR-pattern rifles, or when the rail runs out before your eye does.
QD LEVER
On and off, zero kept
Quick-detach levers let you pull the optic and put it straight back — or move it to another rifle — without losing zero. Worth it when one thermal serves several guns.
BUYING GUIDE

The accessories that actually earn their place

Start with the three that change every hunt. A dead-solid mount holds zero and returns to it — a quick-detach Picatinny mount is the difference between a confident shot and a guess. Spare batteries keep a long night alive; carry two 18650s and a field charger and you'll never cut an outing short. And a hard case earns its keep the first time your rig rides a ute tray over corrugations.

From there it's about your setup: a clip-on adapter to run a thermal ahead of a day scope, a neck strap or harness for all-day carry, and lens protection so the germanium objective survives scrub and dust. Every accessory here is genuine, Pixfra-compatible and warranty-backed by C.R. Kennedy — never grey-market fit-where-it-touches gear.

Each product lists what it fits. Mounts, clip-ons and lens gear are sized to Pixfra models and common day-scope diameters — check the "fits" line on the card, or ask us and we’ll confirm the right part for your exact setup.
Two spare 18650s plus the pack in the unit will see out almost any night. If you run long sessions or cold conditions, add the dual-bay field charger with the 12V ute lead so you can top up on the move.
A quality QD mount returns to zero reliably when torqued correctly — that’s the whole point of the lever design. We only stock mounts we’d run ourselves; budget clamp mounts are exactly where accuracy goes to die.
Yes. Everything here is genuine, Pixfra-compatible and backed by C.R. Kennedy in Australia — the same local warranty and support as the optics themselves. No grey-market guesswork.
