Here's the honest state of the thermal riflescope market: most brands make you choose. You can have the fine sensor, or the built-in rangefinder, or the sane price — pick two, usually one. Pixfra is one of the very few brands in the world that engineers and manufactures its own thermal sensor cores — a club that includes HikMicro and Nocpix, but not most of the field. Building the detector in-house is what lets Pixfra put a genuinely fine sensor, a laser rangefinder and a sane price into the same scope.

Thermal is a premium category and the leading brands are all worth respect — several, like Pixfra, engineer their own sensors, and the field is genuinely good. So we'll keep this honest and specific. On the two things that actually decide a night in the paddock — how clean the picture is, and whether you can range the target without a second device — the Pegasus 2 LRF holds a measurable edge, at a price that tends to sit below the comparable model. The one question a thermal scope has to answer at 1 a.m.

Late, cold, dew down. A soft bloom of heat gathers at the far fence line — a pig, going by the shape. Your scope has already done the part your eyes can't, picking the animal out of the dark. Then comes the question that separates a clean shot from a long walk after a wounded one: how far is it, really?

On a well-regarded 384-class scope at this price — a HikMicro Stellar SH35 sits around $3,499 — you're left to answer that by feel. Good sensor, trusted name; but no way to actually measure the range. To get one that ranges for you, you step up a model and well past five thousand dollars. Ranging, on that line, is either an expensive upgrade or a gap you learn to live with.

The Pegasus 2 LRF answers it before you've moved. Settle the reticle, tap the laser, and the distance appears in the sight while the ballistic engine is already working it into a hold — no handheld unit, no dropping off the rifle in the cold. That's true of every model in the range, down to the $2,890 P335-LRF. The hardest variable in night shooting, made routine.

This is the comparison to take seriously. Nocpix builds its own sensors too, and the Ace series is sharp, well-made kit that has earned its following. Put fairly, it's the closest thing to the Pegasus 2 LRF on the market. Which is exactly why it's worth looking at closely — because the differences that remain are the ones you feel behind the rifle and at the till.

Sensitivity is where it's tightest. A comparable Ace is rated ≤18 mK; the Pegasus 2 LRF is ≤15 mK. A small margin on paper, but it's the margin that matters on a marginal night — when the signature is faint and the contrast is dying, the finer detector is the one still drawing a clean edge on the animal.

Then there's the rangefinder, and the price. A 384-class Ace lands near $3,999 with no laser rangefinder fitted; the Pegasus 2 LRF P335-LRF gives you the same 384 / 35 mm format, a finer sensor and a 1,000 m rangefinder feeding ballistics — for $2,890. Pixfra Pegasus 2 LRF — common questions

Every Pegasus 2 LRF configuration — including the entry P335-LRF — has a 1,000 m laser rangefinder built in. There is no cheaper LRF-less variant. On the P335, P635 and P650 the laser sits in a compact module on top of the objective; on the flagship P650-ILRF it is built fully inside the body. Either way, ranging is part of the platform, because measuring distance is half of what makes a night shot ethical.
They share the same 640×512 sensor, 50 mm F1.0 lens, 2,600 m detection and ≤15 mK sensitivity. The difference is how the rangefinder is fitted: the P650-LRF carries a compact 1,000 m laser module on top of the objective ($4,490), while the P650-ILRF has the same 1,000 m laser integrated inside the body for the cleanest, most streamlined build ($4,990). Same capability — you are choosing the integration.
For most Australian night shooting — foxes and pigs inside a few hundred metres — the P335-LRF is the value pick and still ranges every target. Choose the P635-LRF if you want the 640 sensor with the widest field of view for fast scanning, the P650-LRF for the longest reach in open country, and the P650-ILRF if you want that same reach with the rangefinder built fully into the body.
Pixfra is one of only a handful of brands that manufactures its own thermal sensors — HikMicro and Nocpix are among the others, while Pulsar and most of the field buy their detectors in. Across the board, every Pegasus 2 LRF runs a finer ≤15 mK detector than the comparable HikMicro Stellar (≤20 mK), Nocpix Ace (≤18 mK) or Pulsar Thermion 2 (<25 mK), and it includes the 1,000 m laser rangefinder as standard, where those brands either omit it or reserve it for a dearer model. Yes. The magnesium-alloy body is shock-rated to 1,000 g and validated on heavy loads. It will hold zero on any common Australian hunting calibre, from a .223 up to the big magnums and a 12-gauge.
There is a rechargeable 18650 cell sealed inside the scope, plus a second removable, rechargeable 18650 behind a quick-release cover. Together they run up to 10 hours on the P335-LRF and around 9 hours on the 640 models. Carry a charged spare and you can swap the external cell in seconds, in the dark, without the scope ever switching off — the internal cell keeps it running.
No — that is the point of the conventional design. The Pegasus 2 LRF uses a standard 30 mm main tube, so it drops into any quality 30 mm rings you would use for a day scope. No proprietary rail, no adaptor to source.
Yes. It records stills and video to 64 GB of onboard storage, and recoil-activated recording automatically captures the moments either side of your shot. Over WiFi, the Pixfra Outdoor app adds a live second screen, playback, settings, zero profiles and in-app zeroing.
